Infant Observation free essay sample

For the infant observation, I chose a 10 months old baby girl named Riya. Riya is a full term baby with a birth weight of 7lb and 6oz, and a height of 19 inches. Her heart rate, pulse, appearance, and activities are normal at the time of birth. Riya is living with her father, mother and one elder brother. Her grandparents are here visiting from India. I asked Riya’s parents permission to observe her and they happily agreed for the observation. The mom told me that, she would call me on Saturday either morning or afternoon depending upon Riya’s sleep schedule. She called me around 11. 30, and mentioned that Riya just woke up from her sleep. The mom told me she is going to feed Riya next, and after that Riya will play with her brother. So I started driving to Riya’s house, which is in Sunnyvale just 10mins away from where I live. It was a beautiful morning. Riya was in a high chair in the kitchen. The grandma was feeding to Riya. I went quietly and stood few steps away from the grandma. Riya looked at me. Then the grandma started talking to Riya. She then turned back to the grandma. She boiled rice, dhal, carrot, beans, potato, tomato with salt and grinded, and added little ghee with the mashed rice. Riya seems to like that food and when grandma says â€Å"uh† bringing the spoon near Riya’s mouth, she opened her mouth and swallowed the food. Riya’s fingers were banging on the high chair table, while legs kept constantly kicking. I noticed Riya is expecting grandma to talk and interact with her each spoon. After I went, for the first spoon, the grandma told â€Å"Chellakutty† open your mouth, Riya’s hands hit the high chair table, and leg kicked in the air. While bringing the second spoon, the grandma said â€Å"En kannulaa†, and then jumped with joy â€Å"nga, ngaa†. Riya’s grandma brought the third spoon to Riya while talking to her mom, Riya looked at her mom and did not open her mouth. Then Riya’s grandma told, â€Å"Oh, you want me to talk to you, not your mommy† and gave the next spoon, this time Riya smiled and opened her mouth and took the food. When the bowl is ? done, Riya seemed to slower down started to looking down from the side of her high chair. The grandma gave one more spoon Riya did not open her mouth and started to look again down. The grandma made a noise like an airplane coming down that sounded like this, zzzzzzzzzzz. Then Riya smiled and opened her mouth. Two more spoons went like that. After that Riya was looking down from the high chair and did not turn at the food. Then the grandma stopped. Riya’s mom came, took her bib off, cleaned her and took her out from the high chair. Riya’s mom brought Riya to the living room, and kept her in the mat. I moved from the living room and stood away from Riya. She was sitting up in the mat. Her legs were moving back and forth more like kicking. Riya’s brother, who is 6yrs old, was waiting for this moment to play with Riya. He brought a baby keyboard toy, a steering wheel baby toy, a battery operated shape toy and a teething ring, which the boy told me that was Riya’s favorite one. Riya was looking at her brother, smiling. Her legs started moving fast back and forth, and arms were in clapping position. The boy made the music with the steering wheel toy. Some colored lights came and the toy started talking â€Å"Let’s ride on the bus†. The boy was steering the wheel and Riya was looking at the toy and the boy and kept smiling made the noise ‘nka, nkaaa’. Riya touched the toy, and then moved to the teething ring. She grabbed the teething ring and started biting that. Riya’s brother hugged her. Riya turned to him and smiled at him, while biting the ring. Since Riya was enjoying this, her brother hugged her little tightly. I think this made Riya uncomfortable and started crying. Then the mom came and took Riya, kept her in her shoulder and starting patting. Riya Slowly calm down. After this she left Riya down, she started crawling and reached the family room. She turned back and smiled at her mom, caught the TV cabinet and slowly stood up, she turned back and smiled at her mom and grandma again. Riya used her fingers and started banging on the TV cabinet, while turned back and looked at her mom. Then she crawled fast and got the toy chest edge with her fingers and stood up again. Since Riya’s family planned to go out, I ended my observation. The time was 12. 35pm. Physical and Motor development of Riya: Riya has good control of lifting her chest, rolling, sitting, moving, and crawling. Riya could hold up of an object and stand up and walk with her toes. Riya has good control of her arm, she could clap with her hands, could hold on or grab an object tightly. She has a good control of her leg movement also. Riya has fine pincer control also. Cognitive Development of Riya: From the observation of her eating time, I noticed that she has a good taste, smell and temperature and texture quality. She needs her food to be warm. Riya could see objects from distance. As far as the language Riya could clearly identify all her family members voices and could distinguish between them. She is making sounds like â€Å"nga, mmmaaa† . Social Development of Riya: Riya is social with her family. I was a quite observer only, and not interacted with her. She was very happy with her brother and mommy’s voices. Riya is yet to start the daycare in two months. Emotional development: As far as the emotions Riya was happy, sad, cried, calm, disgusted and frustrated for later part of the food. Over all I had a great experience of watching an infant’s behavior. All this time I was a quite observer and not interacted with Riya. I thanked Riya’s parents, grandma and brother for their co-operation and left from there.

Jesus And The Kingdom Of God Essays - Prophets Of Islam, Free Essays

Jesus And The Kingdom Of God Essays - Prophets Of Islam, Free Essays Jesus And The Kingdom Of God The Gospel of Thomas is unlike any other scripture written about Jesus. It is a collection of Jesus' secret sayings that only someone who actually knew him, like his twin, would be able to recount. Jesus, in the Gospel of Thomas, is a teacher that points his followers in the direction of the Kingdom of Heaven. He explains that the kingdom is a place with no poverty, where all is revealed and that it is already inside and around them but they must learn how to find it. The Kingdom of Heaven, according to Thomas' Jesus, is within each one of us. This concept of god and the kingdom being a part of everyone is a common theme throughout the Bible (Lk 17:21). In the third saying, Jesus tells his followers that the way to gain access to this Kingdom inside us is to learn about ourselves. The knowledge that we came from the Kingdom (GTh 49), that we are sons of the living father (GTh 3), and that are human bodies and lives are not worth anything (GTh 87) are the keys to the Kingdom. If we do not know ourselves then we will not enter the kingdom and we will be in poverty forever (GTh 3). He also says that once we get back into the Kingdom there is nothing that we will not understand (GTh 6b). The Kingdom of Heaven is like Adam's paradise in Eden. Jesus said that, whoever among you shall become as a child shall know the Kingdom (GTh 46). Eden was a place of innocence and to become like a child would be to become innocent. In saying 37, the disciples ask when he will be revealed to them and he answers when they can be naked without shame and jump on their clothes like children. This is not unlike Adam and Eve innocent, child-like, and undressed in Eden. Jesus explains that the Kingdom of the Father is a treasure that lasts forever. He describes it as a pearl that a merchant found and did all he could do to buy it so that he could cherish it for the rest of his life (GTh 76). Jesus tells another parable in which the Kingdom is a treasure buried in a father's farm and he and his son never find it but the next man that owns the farm finds it (GTh 109). The first two men never found the Kingdom of Heaven because they did not look within their own land or themselves but the third man does a little digging and finds this eternal treasure. He who searches, will findit will open to him (GTh 94). In most stories about the Kingdom of Heaven, there is a sense that it will happen in the future but, in this Gospel, Jesus gives of the impression that the Kingdom is here now. He said, What you look for has come, but you do not know it (GTh 51). He tells us that the kingdom is already here but because we do not have knowledge we just do not see it (GTh 113). He explains that the end is where the beginning is (GTh 18). It is almost as if the future and past are combined and that time is irrelevant. The kingdom will happen for us when we know ourselves. However, there is a contraction because saying 57 gives us the idea that there will be a final judgment day. In this saying, the Kingdom is like a man who plants good seed but another man puts bad seed in with the good seed. The first man does not pull out the weeds until harvest day because he is afraid that he will pick out the good plant on accident. On harvest day, it will be obvious which are which and the weeds will the burned. Jesus' role in the Gospel of Thomas is to lead his followers to the Kingdom. He tells them parables that they must understand and follow in order to get into the Kingdom (GTh 82). He tells them that heaven is inside them (GTh 3) and spread out upon the earth (GTh 113). He also teaches that if we look

Rotational Viscometer Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Rotational Viscometer - Essay Example On the other side, the importance of fluids having different properties will be looked at from the angle of engineering by relating the viscosity of different fluids to the ability to work. The project covers in detail the properties of selected fluids, how their viscosity is affected by the properties and any other effect of viscosity on other factors. At last, after knowing the importance of fluid properties in relation to engineering, various equipment different in design and workability are discussed, followed by the positive thought on the engineering and the properties of fluids (Partington, 1952). A fluid can be either a liquid or a gas and understanding its properties enables the understanding of their expected behavior under different environmental conditions. A fluid flows or deforms under a given shear force and in most cases tend to occupy and take the shape of the container in which they are put. In every field of engineering, aspects of deep thinking and calculations are evident aimed at ascertaining the real conditions under which the different fluids can work to determine the right fluid to be used in a given section of equipment. Fluid mechanics study how fluids react to a different force. For example, the environmental engineers use it to study forest fires, pollution dispersion, weather patterns that aid in weather forecasting, oceanography and volcano behavior. By understanding the properties of fluids, they are able to draw conclusions on the expected damage or amount of effect to be caused, and the relative appropriate method to be used in combating natural cal amities with the efficiency of the fluids to be used as shields (Reid & Sherwood, 1958). Engineers design equipment that use fluids, transport or operate in fluid environments such as pacemakers and engines. Understanding the behavior and properties of fluids enables them to selectively use a fluid that is suited to the machine, harmless and with high working

Managing Entrepreneurial Enterprises' Individual Entrepreneurship Essay

Managing Entrepreneurial Enterprises' Individual Entrepreneurship Interview - Essay Example I always like seeing things being done the right way and thus, I prefer employing myself in order to control my business my own way. In my business, I can make my own rules without consulting any person except my employees Charantimath, 2006, 23). Secondly, I like being independent with my own goals and objectives that I have set to achieve. Individuality is a characteristic that enables me to be to stand even when faced with challenges without expecting help form any person. Therefore, as an entrepreneur I can be totally independent without sharing profits or losses with anyone. How do you security in your business? I am a goal oriented person. Setting goals gives a person assurance and security at work since, when the goals are accomplished; it implies that it cannot fail at given time. An entrepreneur has to be focused at achieving his or her goals since; a business is driven by the goals (Eric, 2012, 12). Without goals, the employment security of the employer is at stake and can fail anytime. How do you manage to succeed in your business? First I am a disciplined person. I do not waste time on issues that might lead to failure of my business. I am also punctual in my work. I ensure that all my projects are completed within the speculated time. Discipline also helps me to keep deadlines and be serious with every part of the business (Bridge, 2010, 35). It is also a factor that helps me to ensure that there is no wastage of resources in the business. Therefore, as an entrepreneur, I have managed to succeed through ensuring that every line of work is well coordinated without taking any part for granted. How do you manage to keep your business running despite the stiff competition in the technology industry? The main strategy that I use is creativity and innovativeness. I also have to innovate new ways of repairing different parts of the instruments. This helps me to attract new customers and provide them with quality services (Under30CEO, 2010, 65). One character trait that also helps me manage the competition is being a risk taker. As a risk taker, I can take advantage of different opportunities in life without fearing the possible losses. This way I can come up with quality features that can be used in building my business. For instance, purchasing laptops in bulk from foreign countries is extremely risky since; one is never certain if the laptops will be purchased by customers. However, as an entrepreneur, I have to take the risk since; that way I will increase my profits. This character is also supported by the fact that I am an opportunistic person. How do you ensure that, as an entrepreneur, opportunities do not pass you by? I take advantage of the different opportunities that my competitors may be ignoring. This way, my business can thrive above others since I will be equipped with unique ideas (Rex Bookstore, 2012, 45). I am also a thinker; I find my way out of the hard parts of the business that I may face. For instance, if a laptop has been repaired and it is not yet working, as an entrepreneur I have to think of the probable cause of the problem. Therefore, as an entrepreneur I cannot afford to run out of ideas at any one point in time. This has also helped to be above my competitors since; while other companies might tell

Examining The Sinister Atmosphere Of Macbeth English Literature Essay

Examining The Sinister Atmosphere Of Macbeth English Literature Essay In Macbeth by William Shakespeare, a sinister atmosphere is built up throughout the play. The very first scene is the witches, not Macbeth as you would expect. At first the witches discuss the battle, and then mention Macbeth. The first mention of Macbeth goes hand in hand with talk of battle and is spoken by the witches as if they know each other, there to meet with Macbeth. The audience will think he is evil if he associates with evil, thus painting a bad picture of him before he is even seen upon the stage. An audience will use the first scene of a play to gauge what the play will be about, and the first scene of Macbeth does that quite well. In it there is witchcraft, evil, talk of violence and things not being what they seem foul is fair, and fair is foul- . The scene is very short, just enough to give you a glimpse of the witches and the fact they will take part in the performance, but nothing of their goals or what they could be thinking. They are shrouded in mystery and will leave you thinking about them and what they said. The second time Macbeth is mentioned is by the king as brave Macbeth and as valours minion. This would betray the audiences expectations of Macbeth. Such compliments, and from no less than the king, is not what you would typically expect of someone who consorts with witches. Although, not all the praise is positive. Even though the king talks about how heroic he is, it is told that he is very violent. He carvd out his passage and then unseamd a man from nave the chaps, then fixed his head upon the battlements. All of this is very violent and merciless. He is then described to be Bellonas Bridegroom. At first this would look like a compliment, but upon closer inspection it follows the same merciless, violent tone as before. Violence and mercilessness are all normally traits of evil people, who are working against the greater good. So that is not a trait you would expect to find in the main character of the play. Violence is a large part of Macbeth, as it features heavily throughout. The play mainly consists of violent acts and the plotting behind them. A violent battle, graphically described, then the murder of the king, then the murder of Banquo. It is violent act after violent act. In the fifth scene of act one, Lady Macbeth conjures up a very sinister and violent picture when she mentions being able to dashed out the brains of her own baby while it was smiling in her face. This is very ruthless and says a lot about her character. The character of Lady Macbeth is very ruthless, evil and plotting from the very first time she appears. As soon as she hears of an opportunity to gain fortune and power, she instantly grabs at it, with no thoughts to whether it was wrong or right. This is in contrast to Macbeth, as before meeting the witches he was warlike, but not plotting or malicious. It was only after he met the witches that he changed. He says If chance will have me king, why, chance may crown me, without my stir when he is first told by the witches of his future. He wants the throne, but doesnt want to commit treason. Though his attitude here doesnt last long and is soon consumed by greed, and he no longer thinks this way. This change in character doesnt come about by his greed alone. It is influenced by Lady Macbeth. I think if it were not for her, Macbeth wouldnt have killed the king. If she had not been as power thirsty and told Macbeth it was a bad idea, he would have feasibly given up on this and forgotten about the witches. Macbeth wasnt as confident in the witches and had doubts. Conversely as soon as Lady Macbeth heard she was calling upon spirits that tend on mortal thought to unsex her, with little regard for the fact she was going to kill someone and break the law. I think it was her eagerness to gain power that made Macbeth kill Duncan. Before speaking to Lady Macbeth, Macbeth did have murder on his mind, but was doubtful. He was anxious and scared to kill the king. Even just before, and then after killing Duncan, Macbeth was having second thoughts. It was Lady Macbeth that rid him of his doubt and pushed him onward to go through with the deed. She was helping the witches in their plot for evil, coercing him and playing on his greed, albeit unknowingly. As Macbeths greed grew, so did his ruthlessness to protect his newfound power. He thought Banquo was a threat, so he had him killed. Before the witches came, Macbeth was friends with Banquo, now he was having him killed. Back at the very beginning Macbeth would not have thought of committing such an act. I think this change in character through greed is almost like a warning to people, to make sure the same thing does not happen to them. As Macbeth grew in power and greed, the acts he committed were becoming more sinister and evil. This was one of the most important features that William Shakespeare did to create the atmosphere he did.

Rape on College Campuses :: Sexual Violence Crimes Essays

Rape on College Campuses Nicole Johnson*, a 22-year-old senior at an area university looks back at her college experience as graduation approaches, generally happy with how everything turned out, however, a dark cloud still looms over her freshman year when she was raped. â€Å"I went to a party with a few girls I just met,† Nicole recalls. â€Å"I had two beers and felt really drunk and could barely stand up.† After lying down in an empty room in the apartment, Nicole only remembers the moment she woke up. â€Å"I passed out and when I woke up there was a guy having sex with me. I woke up in the middle of it.† Johnson has become a statistic. In America, 1.3 women are raped every minute, 78 every hour, 56,160 every month, and approximently 683,280 women will be sexually assaulted by the end of this year. The attacker could be a perfect stranger or someone she knows, either way creating an emotionally damaging situation. Legally, one might wonder how sexual assault is defined. According to Massachusetts State law, there are two major categories of sexual assault against adults. One of these is rape, and the other is indecent assault and battery. Rape is defined as â€Å"sexual intercourse or unnatural sexual intercourse with a person and compels such person to submit by force and against his/her will, or compels such person to submit by threat of bodily injury.† Rape and attempted rape are punishable by up to 20 years in prison. The crime of indecent assault and battery occurs when an attacker, has non-consensual physical contact with a person in a sexual manner. This could be any unwarranted physical contact to a person’s private body. This assault is punishable to up to five years in prison. The majority of sexual assaults are committed against women between the ages of 15 and 25, making college-aged women the group with the highest vulnerability to being assaulted. In fact, according to Kelly Walker from campusspeak.com, and a sexual assault survivor, one in four women will be raped during their college experience. Furthermore, during one’s freshman year, they are at the highest risk time for assault, according to the Northeastern University Police Department. The Northeastern Police Department has their own web site with an extensive report on sexual assault and its statistics. In 1990, the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crimes Act was put into place.
